"Very pretty, love the graphics. For a wedding, I would have perhaps used a more "night" appropriate belt. Perhaps something in patent leather and even in a color other than black. Other than that, it's a very pretty dress. Your arms and neckline look very elegant in it. Lastly, for jewelery, you could do bangles (either in silver, colors, or gold...depends on your accessories)."

"I like the two color palettes you have going on here. The skirt is lovely, and depending on the material, would be a three season skirt. The top too is lovely. I’m not sure how well the two of them go together. Here’s what I see. The skirt is voluminous, as is the top. Sometimes, it’s a good idea, to have it be one or the other in order not to add bulk to one’s frame. The top would be great with skinny jeans, or more fitted pants. The skirt would do well with a tank top and sweater (cardigan/jacket etc…) or a top that’s more fitted."

"Lily Pulitzer is one of the best kept secrets for summer dresses. And this one looks lovely on you. Certainly, white is the perfect color for a hot summer day, as it does double duty to keep you cool while reflecting sunlight. I also love how simple your hair is with this outfit. Is that a clutch in your hand? From this angle it's hard to see if the dress has silver or gold embroidery on it. It'd be great if the clutch referenced the color embroidery in order to tie it all together. Because the dress is white, I'm thinking that a black clutch would be too much of a contrast."

"Hi. I'm very much digging your shirt. I've taken to doing wild and fun things (in my humble opinion) with stripes. Since you say in your profile that you're up to doing what you think is interesting, here are some suggestions for the scarves. For the scarf, you could do a color. Forgive me if you did this, it's hard to tell in a black and white picture. You could also do a plaid with the stripe. Any color plaid you want, really, that would complement the colors of the striped shirt. You could do a geometric print scarf or if you're really adventurous, a flower print scarf....If you're not used to it, mixing of patterns can be quite odd and daunting. Today I mixed a white, black, and grey plaid shirt with polka dotted scarf...I love it, but I tend to like drawing outside the lines. Would love to hear what you think."

"Hi there. Great mix of graphics and patterns. The tote really goes a long way to adding the unexpected to the outfit. The use of the cardigan (the fact that it hits you at the hip) and necklace, plus the way you're holding the bag very much helps the eye move from your head downward to your feet. In the end you look longer (the slim fit of the jeans also help with this). I often play up my proportions like this myself when trying to appear taller or thinner :-) Good outfit."

"For a day look, I would take more of a Teen Vogue editorial approach. I’d love to pair this dress with American Apparel’s Lace Print Nylon Tricot dress underneath. This is mainly because the power of suggestion can often be more powerful than all-out reveal. The cut outs of the dress would reveal the flower print AA nylon dres to make the dress more alluring. With such a look I would be ultra casual with shoes in order to balance out the seriousness of the dress. Almost ratty Keds or the old school Reebok high tops in a bright color like fuchsia or even white would work well here."
Martini commented on SajidaJ's outfit.
02/18/10 02:14AM
"For a day look in the winter, I'd love to see this dress paired with opaque black tights, knee-high heel suede boots (or booties, perhaps in lace up grey like the Jeffrey Campbell Mary Roks), a faux fur coat in grey that comes to mid thigh, a wool cap, and a lot of attitude. A more laid back and approachable look might be like all the above, sans faux fur coat, but perhaps with a black Mr. Rogers type of a sweater. The shoes and the dress in this case would definitely make the outfit. To tone down the sex power of the dress, one could wear white, grey or sequined Converses (in red, silver or blue)."
Martini commented on SajidaJ's outfit.
02/18/10 02:06AM
"I have some thoughts about this dress and about the other ones you've posted, SajidaJ. I'd have to agree with Rokerdude25 and with MoonDoll that these dresses are more for clubbing than a formal event. However, I do believe that they can transition quite nicely from day to night. The dresses as they are, are very revealing. So, in order to wear them during the day, that aspect of it has to be played down a wee bit. Here are my thoughts. For this dress, as well as with the newsprint/pink and white dress and the blue dress with the ruching, to be in keeping with current trends (in Hollywood, on TV, in high fashion), one could wear dark tights (for the newsprint dress grey tights would work), platform booties, perhaps in a patent leather, and an oversize sweater to create a fun and sexy day look. In the evening, you would simply put on a pair with high heel sandals (or boots depending on the season), ditch the tights and sweater and get yourself ready for a night of dancing and fun. "
Martini commented on Dean92W's outfit.
02/18/10 01:56AM
"I heart the bow tie. I have quite a fondness for them. From this picture it's hard to tell the color, but if you'd like to be a little bit daring, you could do a different colored bow-tie, a paisley, or flower print that is in the same color family as the sweater. In the end, the contrast would elevate the outfit a wee bit."
Martini commented on HollaayLoXO's outfit.

"Very nice. I'm very much liking the print of the halter. Such a good idea to have your clothes work double duty. A tank can become a skirt, and shirt van become a dress, and a sweater can become a scarf."

"Perfect outfit for a casual day. A white tshirt always works (especially in keeping one cool). I would pay attention to your proportions though. The shorts come right below your knees which makes your legs appear short thus making you appear shorter than your 5'7. Don't be afraid to tailor your shorts to make sure they hit right at or slightly below your knees. I think we all need to remember this little tidbit of information. Yours truly is often guilty of the same thing. Now, I'm not saying you need to tailor your shorts so they make you look like Tom Selleck in Magnum PI, but unless you're as tall as a pole, shorts that hit mid-calf will work against you."
Martini commented on sciguy0504's outfit.

A tshirt/button down shirt and a jacket (leather, wool, crepe...you name it) works because they are simple classic pieces, that work together in harmony. I love the fact that you paired the jacket with your "All we need is love t-shirt." This is undoubtedly your go to outfit. The secret of it is this can be your go to outfit for the rest of your life. Simply switch the jeans for black pants, or a skirt (denim, black, plaid...) and switch to a tshirt or shirt that suits your mood, and there you go. Classic. Simple. Chic."

Martini commented on magnifico's outfit.
04/04/09 01:50AM
"Very dapper. I love how you are so consistent with your look. I can always depend on you for the preppy yet dashing Ralph Lauren look. Here's what I love. The shirt is an awesome color and particularly makes you stand out in that picture. The teal paired with the gray is a great way to retain the vibrancy of the teal. Wearing black would mute the teal, and wearing white (or a lighter color) would make the teal appear brighter. The tie, with the gray vest is another plus since the black with the gray and teal makes the look more graphic. To change your look, and to make the top half of your outfit in keeping with you sense of adventure, I would try a plaid or chambray tie. As I’m sure you know for a more casual look, you could leave the tie off, wear the shirt and vest with jeans (or khakis) and you would have a look that’s just as fun, yet casual. I do notice however that we lose your neck in this picture. For this look, you could opt for a vest with a deeper V. If you want to maintain your neck with your beard, always think about drawing the eye down. A vest with a deeper V would make us focus on the tie and take attention away from your neck. When wearing crewneck t-shirts with the beard, opt for a lower crewneck than one that comes to your collar bone. It’s all about tricking the eye….small critique since you otherwise look awesome. Well done! By the way, Express is the best kept secret for affordable yet good men's shirts."

I wore this on vacation in South Africa. It was our sightseeing day in which we did the ocean drive around Cape Town. 03/27/09 01:53AM
" I like the whole black look. Very slimming. In terms of your comment regarding the sleeves, the current trend both in the US and in Europe is to roll the sleeves up to the elbows, though in Europe, Italy in particular, they tend to roll the sleeves rather than push them to the elbows. The three stripes on both sleeves draw the attention towards the torso thereby accentuating your shoulders. This is not at all a problem since you have nice shoulders. I like the graphic details, but I would also have liked just a plain black crew-neck sweater. Well done."
Martini commented on smooch142008's outfit.

"Awesome! I love it. Tangerine and yellow are both in the same color family, so kudos for putting them together. I like the way the dress skims your hips thereby accentuating you figure in all the right ways. I applaud you for using the belt especially since it accentuates the smallest part of your body. The 3/4 length sleeved cardigan also works really well. The little bit of arm that you do show comes out to be almost flirty. Even the necklace works really well here. Where is it from? Since it's a two strand necklace, it keeps look “light and spring-like”. You could even use pearls, and get a more demure or Mrs. Obama look. Well done! The only thing I might change is the belt. I like how you ground the whole look with the black belt and black shoes, but what if you used one of the colors from your necklace as a belt and for shoes?"

"Oh my word! Perfect. You look gorgeous. My only complaint is that I'd like to se the whole thing live. From what I can see the halter top reveals your back in a sexy yet tasteful way. I also love ow the veil is light an delicate and does not obstruct your pretty face. Lovely."

"The colors are very neutral and safe. I would pull up your sleeves to the elbows and would wear the necklace from the picture you posted with the tangerine colored dress. You could also wear the yellow cardigan with this dress. I also appreciate the stud earrings with the necklace. Chandelier earrings would compete with the necklace. Lovely look!"

"What a pretty dress! The bright colors remind me of spring. I like how the dress cinches at the smallest part of your body then flares away from your figure. Very pretty indeed."

"You know, I love these pants! They are great for their original purpose, but they can be worn out of context...which is what I love about fashion. I stole a pair from a boyfriend years ago and still wear them. and here is how. I pair it with a beat-up snug t-shirt that I got from Goodwill or with a white button-down shirt. I usually wear the shirt like Joseph wears it here, with the sleeves rolled up and with the shirt semi tucked in the front. I wear the shorts slung low on my hips and have them held up with cording from a fabric store. As for shoes, I wear a pair of high heeled studded sandals, Chuck Taylors, leather thongs, or with a variety of platform sandals. I put on my sunglasses (usually aviators in this case) and lipstick and I leave the house. The only thing I did when I stole the boyfriend's jeans was to make sure that the shorts hit just above my knees. When shorts/or skirts hit my knees at the wrong length they make me look like Mr. Frodo."

"You girls look like you're having a great time. The dress is really cute. Is it a maxi dress? From what I can see everything about your outfit is perfect except for the necklace, the color is great! It makes you look tanned. Was this picture taken during the summer? I would recommend that you leave out the necklace and here's why. The V straps bring attention to your face, and makes your shoulders look tanned and toned. The necklace and the dress straps are fighting for attention so that the eye focuses on your neck rather than on your face, which is where the eyes would be drawn to if the necklace were not there. Furthermore, the double attention to the neck, makes your neck appear shorter. You could try using the necklace as a bracelet. Sometimes, you can get them to wrap twice around the wrists...a little trick that I always use."

"In deciding what to wear, I usually decide on the mood that I want to convey. This is my lively look. The baby doll dress and sweater are fine, but I didn't want to look too cute. So, I thought of wearing socks! I always see other people doing it, so I thought, why not wear socks. Though I knew that in order to pull off the look I needed to give an impression of long legs, I didn't want the socks to make me look frumpy, too young, or shorter than I already am. So I made sure to pick a dress that hit above my knees. I also didn't want to overcrowd the look, the dress is busy enough, and with the purple shoes, and hot pink socks, I thought it best to keep accessories to my ring. What do you think? "

"The shoes really are adorable. Are there jewels, or rhinestones on them? They look flirty yet professional. I would do a bit more accessorizing, perhaps with a bracelet or bag in a bold color such as green, yellow, red or orange. You could also opt for a beaded necklace in a bold color. To go along with the spirit of the shoes, if you're ever around an Indian shop that sells apparel, buy a few Indian bracelets in a variety of colors. They are usually thin (inexpensive---usually $10 for about 12) and add such whimsy to an outfit. This look is very neutral and thus can be dressed up or down merely by the accessories you choose to use."

"This is a great base outfit. Consider different shoes. Ballet flats are fine, but what about in gold, red patent leather or even yet, suede pumps in aubergine....Yes, we're in a recession...but aubergine suede pumps are my current obsession...I digress. So, push up the sleeves of the cardigan to your elbow, and wear bangles or some kind of a bracelet (in a color other than black and white). With the sleeves pushed up, bangles, different shoes, you'll have a completely different outfit...Oh, don't forget the fingers. Try an ostentatious ring..cubic zirconia. Wearing black and white allows you to experiment...have fun with this look. I see endless possibilities."

"Is it by coincidence that you match the playground? This is a great example of when you're not sure if something matches, look around you. A playground is the perfect example of colors that go together. Other favorites of mine are fish scales. In tropical fish, blue and yellow, pink and gold, brown and green..."
